Bracknell, Berkshire-based Hewlett-Packard UK Ltd has announced a new Ethernet-to-Token Ring router and a thin coaxial hub: the EtherTwist 27286A router has four ports to connect one Ethernet link, one Token Ring 4/16Mbps link, and two wide area network links each running of speeds of up to 2.048Mbps; it uses Fastmac technology from Madge Networks Ltd which incorporates the Texas Instruments Inc Token Ring chip set, and transmits 5,500 packets per second; it is SNMP-compliant, provides concurrent operation using TCP/IP, DECnet IV, Xerox Corp XNS, Novell Inc IPX and AppleTalk II protocols, with X25 software for configuration of wide area network ports; the EtherTwist 28692A Hub Plus supports SNMP/IP and IPX-based network management systems, and it has nine thin coaxial and one AUI port; it connects to thin or thick coaxial, fibre optic or twisted pair cables; the 27286A router costs #7,000 while the 28692A hub is around #2,600.
