HEWLETT-PACKARD TO SHUT CORVALLIS CHIP PLANT

By CBR Staff Writer

Hewlett-Packard Co is to close down its semiconductor manufacturing plant in Corvallis, Oregon, according to a report in Semiconductor Business News. The ASIC production that takes place at the plant will be shifted over to Fort Collins, Colorado, where ongoing fab development has already been halted. The plant should be closed by next April, and 440 jobs will be affected. HP announced last week that it is currently looking to cut some 2,500 jobs from its payroll (CI No 3,509).
