The new structure will see the section of HP Services that manages the company’s internal technology decisions report to both the HP Services business unit and former Compaq and now HP CIO Bob Napier. Before the merger with Compaq took place, HP had always delegated its key technology decisions to its managed services business unit, while Compaq had always adopted the traditional structure of its IT department having key decision making authority.
Hewlett-Packard is hoping that its new organizational structure will resolve any disputes that could potentially take place. The restructuring will see HP create a new business unit that will unite parts of the company’s managed services unit with parts of its internal technology group. The new unit will be known as Managed Services Design and Delivery. HP is hoping that the new business unit will help the company to take advantage of its technical knowledge with the aim of benefiting its existing customers.
