HEWLETT-PACKARD TO GET ITS 80286 LAP-TOP FROM ZENITH

By CBR Staff Writer

Further enhancing the standing of Zenith Electronics Corp in the personal computer business, Hewlett-Packard Co has decided not to develop its own 80286-based lap-top to complement its existing 8088-based model, but instead buy one OEM from the Glenview, Illinois company. It has signed a multi-year OEM agreement with Zenith for that company to manufacture a version of its new SupersPort 286 Model 20 customised to Hewlett’s specifications, and plans to start marketing the machine under its own name in the US from the end of this year. Value of the OEM contract was not given.
