HEWLETT-PACKARD SETS RISC STATION, TOP-END FOR TODAY

Hewlett-Packard Co is today expected to pitch in against the likes of Sun and Apollo with the HP9000/825 SRX graphics workstation, rated at about 8 MIPS. The machine will add the firm’s Renaissance three-dimensional graphics chip set to its Spectrum RISC processor, and to be around $70,000 with 8Mb CPU. Also expected are a 24-user, 3 MIPS 8Mb9000/825S at $42,500 and an 80-user 16Mb 9000/850 at 6.7 MIPS at around $200,000; all will run HP-UX Unix.
