Having tested the water with its handheld HP 95LX machine, Hewlett-Packard Co is expected to make its entrance into the notebook computer market this spring with the launch of what could be the first of the next generation of compact machines, US PC Week reports. Its first offering will be a 3 lbs unit with Windows and applications in ROM, and is dubbed by the company a super portable rather than a subnotebook, because it will offer more features than a traditional subnotebook. It is currently called the HP XN and measures 11 by 6 by 1.5. It is driven by a 3.3V Am386SXL processor from Advanced Micro Devices Inc. It has 2Mb memory, 40Mb hard disk, external floppy drive and PCMCIA slot. Price is uncertain.
