Hewlett-Packard Co is cementing its relationship with New Delhi-based Hindustan Computers Ltd, forged when it acquired Apollo Computer Inc, by merging its Indian computer operations with those of Hindustan and paying the equivalent of
23m for a 26% stake in the enlarged company, to be called HCL Hewlett-Packard Ltd. The deal is expected to get the ne cessary government approvals by the end of the year. Hindustan claims to be the biggest computer company in India, majors on Unix and assem bles Apollo workstations in a deal that pre-dates Hewlett’s arrival on the scene. HCL also has reprogra phics and communications businesses which will remain outside the deal.
