Palo Alto, California-based Hewlett-Packard Co has turned to Structured Software Solutions Inc, Plano, Texas for the terminal session-management software it needed to create the HP 700/70 Windowing Terminal, a low-cost terminal that offers windowing capabilities for running multiple Unix application sessions simultaneously by means of Structured Software’s FacetTerm windowing software, providing the look and feel of windowing systems at the price of a text terminal. It works with Unix hosts from Hewlett itself, from IBM Corp, Sun Microsystems Inc, Digital Equipment Corp, Santa Cruz Operation Inc and other Unix personal computers. It is compatible with the AlphaWindows and the ANSI text terminal standard, and is also available as a firmware upgrade for users of HP 700/60 text terminals. It comes with FacetTerm window-management software, choice of white, green or amber 14 monochrome display, choice of AT or ANSI keyboard, user’s manual and power cord. FacetTerm enables users to run up to six applications or connections to networked Unix hosts simultaneously, with mouse or hot-key switching between active appications or host sessions. It costs $500 from next month, with keyboard and licence to FacetTerm. The optional mouse is $30, the Model 700/60 to 700/70 upgrade kit $70. One $100 media kit to install FacetTerm software on a Unix host is needed per site.
