By CBR Staff Writer

Hewlett-Packard Co has enhanced its Electronic Messaging Solution by improving management capabilities, expanding desktop client support and adding more mail-enabled applications and gateways. The system has now been integrated with the HP OpenView network management system allowing network managers to monitor distributed messaging servers, networking and system processes from a central graphical workstation. Additional features enable HP OpenView managers provide remote notification – via beeper or printer – of process exceptions and resource constraints. Hewlett-Packard has also updated directory synchronisation services to synchronise HP OpenMail directories and SoftSwitch Central. New people-mover utilities simplify the movement of users and their data between distributed nodes in the network. Hewlett-Packard has also said it will provide coexistence and migration services to IBM Corp Profs and OfficeVision/VM users. OpenMail now also supports Lotus cc:Mail and Microsoft Mail clients directly. Hewlett-Packard also announced new versions of its own clients, including interfaces for Apple Computer Inc Macintosh and Sun Microsystems Inc Solaris 2.1, and new versions of existing interfaces for Windows and NewWave. The new Windows client offers an iconic, graphical interface with Hewlett-Packard Bulletin-board access, while the NewWave Mail release provides acknowledgements and auto-actions. Hewlett-Packard has also announced the availability of a Phonebook application enabling look-up access to the HP OpenMail directory, and enhancements to the company’s HP X.400 MTA with the inclusion of the X/Open-APIA Gateway application programming interface.
