Hewlett-Packard Co has announced the incorporation of SNMP agent software into its OpenView system, giving users the ability to manage centrally all types of network resource. The HP OpenView Extensible SNMP agent requires no special programming, and gives users more control than the previous option of SNMP agents on system nodes in a network. The company also announced plans to bundle OpenView with its workstations in an effort to boost user numbers. It is estimated that there are currently about 6,300 networks using OpenView worldwide, but the company hopes that this number will be increased by preconfiguring its workstations with the system. Hewlett has also expanded its reseller programme to extend corporate support to the companies licensing HP OpenView network managements
