Hewlett-Packard Co has new three-dimensional client-server graphics programming products based on the PEX 5.1 and PEXlib industry standards – for its Precision Architecture RISC workstations. The new PEX Server and PEXlib Client software running on the HP Apollo 9000 Series 700 workstations extends capabilities of the X Window System, providing integrated three-dimensional distributed graphics, the company says. PEXlib runs on top of the PEX protocol that provides three-dimensional performance extensions to X Window and PEXlib enables developers to build three-dimensional graphics programs that can be accessed at any PEX-compatible system. PEXlib Client includes an integrated on-line hypertext tutorial with definitions and examples of how to perform various programming tasks. PEXlib Client buyers can also order the O’Reilly & Associates Inc PEXlib programming and reference manuals through Hewlett-Packard. PEX Server and PEXlib Client are expected to be available to software developers in September; the PEXlib Client and PEX Server developer’s bundle is not expected to exceed $3,500; PEXlib Client and PEX Server Run-Time bundle will not be more than $500.
