Hewlett-Packard Co has introduced the first members of a new mid-range printer family that use the same Printer Control Language as its desktop LaserJet and high-end production-capacity HP 5000 printers. The new HP 5000 C30 simplex and C30D duplex 30 page per minute printers are for medium-volume printing with the HP 3000 Series 900 and HP 9000 Series 800 servers and use LED imaging array with laser-quality resolution of 300 dots per inch. They feature integrated parallel and serial interfaces and have PCL Level 5 support. They are largely user-maintainable with major components packaged in cartridges for easy replacement. An HP JetDirect EX external network interface can be used to connect them to a local net. Optional HCI high-capacity input and HCO output accessories increase input capacities to 1,750 or 3,050 sheets, output capacities to 1,400 sheets. The C30 and C30D are $16,000 and $21,350, respectively; HCO and HCI are $1,400 and $2,100 respectively.
