Hewlett-Packard France SA snatched the second-place market share spot away from Apple Computer Inc in the personal computer market in the second quarter, according a report by International Data Corp. In a market that grew 18% in units to 869,149 and 10% in revenue, Hewlett garnered a 11.2% share, while Apple got 10.5% and IBM Corp 10.3%. Compaq Computer Corp’s hold on the number one spot strengthened to 17.2%. Zenith Data Systems retained fifth place, adding three points, to 8.8%. IPC Corp Ltd and Packard Bell Electronics Inc held their 3.5% and 3.3% shares, respectively, while Ing C Olivetti & Co SpA got into the top 10 with 3%. The most striking growth came from the fireside and independent home office segment, which grew 25%, compared with only 8% for the professional market.
