A new ink-jet printer from Hewlett-Packard Co that is claimed to match the quality of laser printers at just $995 is generating considerable excitement – and unlike the generality of laser printers, it is all the company’s own work. The DeskJet was developed by Hewlett and is manufactured at its Corvallis, Oregon plant. It prints at two pages per minute on plain paper, and Hewlett is tipped to sell as many as 100,000 in the first year.
