Hewlett-Packard Co has launched the HP Model 45 Plus, an X25 switching node and multiprotocol packet assembler-disassembler supporting X25, SNA/SDLC and asynchronous protocols. It runs as a stand-alone, intermediary system and terminal switch, and concentrates SNA, asynchronous and X25 traffic onto a single X25 access line. The product is claimed to offer high performance through multiprotocol links up to 1.5Mbps, and throughput up to 2,500 packets per second on 30 ports, while packet sizes can be configured up to 1,024 bytes. Prices start at around UKP5,400 for the 18-port model, up to UKP8,505 for the 30 port model. An upgrade kit is available for existing Model 45 customers, and it is around UKP4,455.
