Hertfordshire police has become the first force in the UK to test a Panasonic tablet, filled with crime-fighting technology and 4G internet connectivity.
The Panasonic Touchpad FZ-G1, launched in January 2013, weighs 1.1Kg and can be stored into the glove box of police cars, providing officers with real-time information.
The Windows 8 Pro tablet should enable officers to carry out investigations and input data without having to return to the police station, meaning more time could be spent on the street.
The 8.4-inch model has a 1920×1200 full HD resolution, a multi-touch touchscreen monitor developed by KME and a 4G compatible broadband router enabling high-speed internet connectivity.
Other features include a 10-finger multi-touch screen, eight hours of battery life, a digital pen to record signatures as well as resistance to dust and water.
Sam Burrows, an emergency service specialist at Panasonic Toughbook, said: "Our emergency services need technology that is fast, simple and intuitive to use but at the same time built to stand up to the rigours of everyday life on the frontline.
"The Toughpad FZ-G1 is the perfect tablet to meet these needs and we are delighted that Vauxhall has included the technology at the heart of its latest Astra police vehicles."
