HDS Network Systems Inc of King of Prussia, Pennsylvania has joined the rush to the Internet by X Window terminal manufacturers with software that enables any HDS X terminal bought since 1991 to run Java applets. HDS, which uses the Intel Corp 80960CA RISC in its X terminals, says that a prototype of its Java virtual machine is downloadable from the HDS home page, http://www.hds.com. When we release our first network computers later this year, people will see the real benefits of network computing – the ability to run any application that resides anywhere on a network, without the cost and administrative burdens of today’s personal computers, HDS says. Pricing for the new systems will begin at under $750.
