HAYES EXPANDS ITS UK OFFERINGS WITH THREE NEW MODEMS, PROMISES MORE

By CBR Staff Writer

Hayes Microcomputer Products Inc has added three new modems to its UK offering. The Smartmodem 9600+Quad V42 and Smartmodem 2400+Quad V42 have transmission rates of 9600bps and 2400bps respectively; both have adaptive data compression, automatic feature negotiation, automatic speed buffering, adaptive start up and compliance with CCITT V42 for point-to-point modem error control. The company also has a new mid-range modem, the Smartmodem 2400. Available this March, prices are UKP1,000 for the Smartmodem V42 9600, UKP650 for the V42 2400 and UKP600 for the 2400. The company says it is developing dial-up X25 in V-series products, and should have it available commercially later this year; Hayes says this will allow users to manage terminals in widely dispersed locations and provide immediate connectivity to ISDN. The company already has V-series products available in the US, and is planning to launch them here in Europe later this year.
