HAYES AND US ROBOTICS IN 56K MODEM DEAL

US Robotics Corp confirmed Thursday that Hayes Microcomputer Products Inc has agreed to sell 56kbps modems based on x2 technology licensed from US Robotics. Hayes had previously said it would back only competing 56k technology from Rockwell Semiconductor Systems. Texas Instruments Inc also figures into the deal, as they will manufacture the chipsets used in the x2 modems.
