Dusseldorf-based Hauppauge Computer Works GmbH showed a dual-processor 80486+80860 motherboard at the Intel stand at last week’s Unix User Show. It includes the APX software executive standard environment for running Intel 80860 applications in parallel with 80486 applications. Intel’s Sharad Gandhi said that in order to provide software portability over a wide range of systems, from symmetrical dual processors such as the Hauppauge to add-in cards such as the IBM Wizard, APX has all system input-output performed by the host CPU. 80860 applications running over the APX executive need not be concerned with either the hardware or operating system it is running with. This will provide portability of 80860 applications over a wide range of hardware and operating systems.
