Hathaway Corp, Bloomfield, Colorado hopes to spin off its software operations, Carolina Global Inc and its wholly-owned Global Software Inc if the Internal Revenue Service decides that the spin-off will not lead to any major liability for tax to shareholders: Hathaway plans to distribute all the outstanding shares of Carolina Global to its shareholders, so that it operates as a separate publicly-owned company under the Global Software Inc name; the company did $23.3m in the year to June 30, 1989, representing 47% of the total revenues of Hathaway, and develops, maintains and markets business application software developed for IBM mainframe and mid-range business computers for the distribution, manufacturing and hospital markets and also provides custom programming services; it was acquired by Hathaway in 1985 from Global Ultimacc Systems Inc, which was then 54%-owned by then-bankrupt Storage Technology Corp.
