HARRIS TO INVEST IN NEW CHIP FACILITY IN EUROPE

Now that it has wrapped up acquisition of General Electric Co’s Solid State unit, Harris Corp is reviewing all its chip operations, and reckons that its French joint venture, Matra Harris Semiconducteurs gives it insufficient presence in Europe: the company is considering investing up to $100m in a new chip facility in Europe, either expanding the small GE assembly and fabrication plant in Eire, or building a new plant on a green field site.
