Harris, under the contract, would supply a dozen orbital replacement units that would support audio network routing and control functions. Harris previously produced the internal audio system and internal video distribution subsystem of fibre-optic for the space station’s communications network.
The company’s audio visual display system provides audio communications among individual crewmembers within the station as well as with teammates on Earth, docked spacecraft, and crewmembers engaged in extravehicular activity, such as spacewalks. It also distributes video signals from various cameras to monitors within the Space Station or for transmission to Earth.
Harris conducts advanced research studies and develops network architectures for NASA that provides space and terrestrial communications and support solutions that solve the mission critical challenges of NASA’s exploration programme.
