HARRIS ACQUIRES FRENCH DIGITAL BROADCAST PIONEER INNOVATION

By CBR Staff Writer

Harris Corp of Melbourne, Florida has added to its empire of subsidiaries by acquiring Innovation Telecommunications Image and Sound, a French provider of digital video and digital audio broadcasting products, on undisclosed terms. Harris, which turns over more than $3.6bn annually and supplies transmitters to 130 US television stations, wanted Rennes, France-based Innovation so it could provide digital television and radio broadcast products that meet both US and European standards. Innovation was the first company to demonstrate a full digital audio broadcasting system back in 1994. Innovation will become part of Harris’ Broadcast Division but will continue to operate independently as an advanced engineering center.
