HARLAND SIMON WINS UKP12M CONTACT FOR DRIVE CONTROL EQUIPMENT

Harland Simon Group Plc, the Milton Keynes-based supplier of computer control systems and associated software mainly to the printing industry, has won a UKP12m contract for drive control equipment and computerised press management systems; the order, placed by MAN Roland of Augsburg, West Germany in association with Rupert Murdoch’s News International, is for operation with 24 Newsman 80 newspaper offset presses to be installed at two plants in the UK: Harland & Simon says the order is the largest of its kind ever placed in the European printing industry, including 96 variable speed drives, each rated at 170KW, plus computerised operator consoles and press controls.
