By CBR Staff Writer

UK software firm Micro Focus has acquired GWAVA, an enterprise information archiving (EIA) specialist based in Canada.

GWAVA is the third North American firm acquired by Micro Focus in less than a year.

Micro Focus recently announced its merger with Hewlett Packard Enterprise’s (HPE) software business segment in a deal valued at about $8.8bn.

The purchase of GWAVA expands Micro Focus’s portfolio in the high-growth areas of mobile, social, cloud and big data.

It will allow the UK firm to address the increasing governance requirements of customers as part of their compliance, privacy and regulatory reporting needs.

Headquartered in Montreal, Quebec, GWAVA has offices across the US, Germany, and the UK.

The company maintains a network of strategic partners with BlackBerry, Samsung, GWAVAMicrosoft and Verizon.

Micro Focus said EIA specifically offers the ability to archive all electronic business communication data in one central location including email, instant messaging, texts and social media.

Micro Focus CEO Stephen Murdoch said:  “Today’s organisations need to maximise the value of their existing IT infrastructure, while still embracing the opportunities presented by new technology so they can innovate faster with the lowest possible risk.

“The acquisition of GWAVA serves both purposes of protecting and further expanding value to our loyal customers, while adding leadership in the growth market of Enterprise Information Archiving.”

GWAVA CEO Ken Muir said: “The technology landscape continues to transform, and we are excited to join Micro Focus to further collaborate on solutions and offerings that provide customers greater choices in how they manage business communications in complex and rapidly changing markets.”

Micro Focus offers software and consultancy services for clients updating legacy systems to modern platforms.
