Manchester Police gears up on thousands of IoT wearable body-cameras

News: Devices are expected to be operational by Q2 2016.

By Joao Lima

22,000 police officers in Greater Manchester will gear up on wearable cameras to boost convictions, reduce complains and increase confidence in policing.

The force has ordered 3,148 devices, which are set to be delivered in Q1 2016 and operational by spring next year.

TASER International has been tasked with providing the Axon Body 2 type of cameras. Data will be stored and managed on Evidence.com, Axon’s cloud-based platform.

The cameras have retina HD video with a resolution of 1080p, dual audio channels, storage capacity of 64GB, and record up to 70 hours. Videos can be downloaded to the cloud via Wi-Fi

Assistant Chief Constable Garry Shewan, said: "Technologies such as body-worn video will make up part of the policing landscape for many years to come, and this funding will allow Greater Manchester to be at the forefront of the nationwide push towards more accountable and effective police forces."
