Between 2012 and 2016, one hundred million pounds has been invested in UK startups through online funding community Kickstarter.
During the last four years, more than 1.2 million backers have presented over 1.8 million pledges, according to the organisation.
The majority of the backers, 742,317, are based in the UK. Other countries from where backers supported British entrepreneurs include the US, Germany, Australia and Canada.
The most commonly pledged amount was £10, yet, the overall average was £53.80.
Since 2012, 8,181 UK projects have been successfully funded, from a total of 20,651 ideas launched on the platform. 12,470 have failed to succeed in their funding rounds.
London’s entrepreneurs take the lead in terms of the amount of projects put forward. The capital represents 7,535 of the total amount of ideas presented.
This includes everything from cats on the underground to Ai Wei Wei’s exhibit at the Royal Academy to BLOCKS, the world’s first modular smartwatch.

To date, the most successful project has been Dark Souls – The Board Game, a tabletop game based on the immensely popular Dark Souls video game. The board game has raised £3,771,474 from 31,178 backers.
The games category was in fact the most popular for backers, leading with 609,724 pledges and more than £26 million in pledged funds.
This was followed by the technology sector with over £20m of crowdfunding, design (nearly £15m) and film and video (£12m).
Worldwide, more than one hundred thousand projects have come to life with the support of the Kickstarter community. Nearly 11 million people, from every continent on earth, have backed a Kickstarter project.
