The Internet of Things is set to receive a boost from a kickstarter campaign launched by Haltian, a start-up formed by ex-Nokia employees.
Haltian aims to raise $99,000 through crowdfunding and to commence large scale manufacturing of Thingsee One, the world’s first smart developer device for IoT projects, in 2015.
Ville Ylläsjärvi, co-founder at Haltian, says the device provides a hardware platform for developers to bring their IoT ideas to life.
"Thingsee One will save time and money by offering reasonably priced hardware to developers and enthusiasts that facilitates any number of Internet of Things use cases, which is something that hasn’t existed before," he says.
The device includes GPRS, WLAN, Bluetooth and Micro USB 2.0 connectivity, and is also equipped with a variety of sensors, including a gyroscope, an accelerometer, and humidity and temperature sensors.
Optimised power consumption means the battery in Thingsee One can last up to a year. The shock- and water-resistant device can also be used in remote locations with no power source.
The Kickstarter campaign will run for 30 days and aims to collect market feedback before final hardware approval in March 2015.
