More than half of Britain’s 100 fastest-growing tech companies are based in London, according to the annual Tech Track 100.

The league table ranks the UK’s top tech firms based on their average annual sales growth over the last three years.

The 13th list found the 100 companies grew sales over the period by an average of 92% each year, reaching a total of £2.6bn.

A collective staff of 12,100 also shows evidence of serious expansion among the firms, which added more than 8,600 jobs during that time.

A total 6,734 of those jobs were created by the 52 companies in London, which also contributed £1.54bn to the growth figure.

Top of the list is London-based digital marketing company MVF, which saw an average 278% yearly sales growth, taking its sales income to £13.9m this year.

Mind Candy, the developer behind the hit Moshi Monsters game, came seventh in London and 10th overall, boasting more than 80m registered players, and plans to launch an animated series about the Moshi characters.

Mind Candy had an average yearly growth of 190% – resulting in £46.9m sales in 2012/13 compared to £1.9m in 2009/10.

The league table lists just three Midlands-based tech companies in its top 100, including power systems developer Intelligent Energy, with 17 in the Southeast and five in the East of England region.

Scotland and the Southwest had four apiece while Northern Ireland registered just one. Wales and the Northeast and Yorkshire had no companies in the top 100.

Startup bootcamp Oxygen Accelerator’s CEO Simon Jenner denied London is a better location for new tech firms after relocating his business from Birmingham to Shoreditch’s Tech City last month.
