GUPTA ANNOUNCES SQL FOR WINDOWS VERSION 5.0 WITH NEW QUICKOBJECTS ARCHITECTURE

By CBR Staff Writer

Menlo Park, California-based Gupta Corp has announced SQL Windows 5.0, the latest release of its application development system. A new QuickObjects architecture provides a suite of reusable software components, designed to make it easier to create truly object-oriented applications. Also new is integration with workgroup applications such as Lotus Notes and electronic mail packages to help developers build workgroup-enabled database applications. The SQL Windows Compiler converts fourth generation language code to C code, resulting in faster application performance. SQL Windows 5.0 will be available by the end of July in two versions: a Corporate Edition aimed at professional developers and teams of programmers, and a Network Edition aimed at individual client-server developers. The Corporate Edition is priced at $4,000 and includes the SQL Windows development environment with QuickObjects, the Quest data management tool, SQL Windows Compiler, SQLConsole application tuning facility, Gupta Open Repository and team programming facilities, a development licence for SQLBase, Open Data Base Connectivity support, a server licence for high-performance routers to leading SQL databases, QuickObject interfaces to Notes and leading electronic mail packages, a Visual Toolchest class library, and interfaces to leading software engineering tools. A subset of the Corporate Edition, the Network Edition, is available for $2,000 and includes all the features of the Corporate Edition except interfaces to development tools, SQLConsole, SQL Windows Compiler, Gupta Open Repository and team programming facilities. Gupta has also announced Quest Reporter and Quest 3.0, new versions of its client-server query and data management tool for end-users, integrated with SQL Windows 5.0.
