Guangdong Mobile hires Ericsson to expand its network

Ericsson and Guangdong Mobile Communication Corporation have signed two contracts worth $535 million for the expansion of the Guangdong Mobile's GSM/GPRS network in China. The contract will require Ericsson to supply equipment and software, as well as provide other services during the expansion.

Once the expansion is complete, the network will be able to support 27 million users, and also offer GPRS-based services to all customers. The GPRS technology will allow Guangdong Mobile to provide a variety of advanced mobile Internet services.

Ericsson will also install special features on the network that will improve its function, for example, newly integrated pre-paid functions.

Nanjing Ericsson Panda Communications Company Ltd will be supplying the equipment for both contracts. Nanjing is Ericsson’s main business enterprise in China.

The expansion is expected to be complete next year.
