GTE WINS $500M EXTENSION OF AOL CONTRACT

GTE Corp will receive an additional $500 million from America Online Inc to extend its contract to operate part of AOL’s dial- up network. GTE will be expanding the capacity of the AOLnet service through the deployment of additional modems. GTE inherited the contract, which now expires in June 2002, when it bought BBN Corp in August. AOL and BBN first signed the contract in March 1995.
