GTE Internetworking, a unit of GTE Corp, has gone to Northern Telecom fiber optic equipment for use in its Global Network Infrastructure, currently under construction. GTE Internetworking has signed a letter of intent to purchase more than $150m of Nortel’s S/DMS TransportNode OC-192 10-gigabit-per-second systems plus Nortel’s Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing equipment to build a network capable of carrying high-speed data, voice and video communications. GTE’s Global Network Infrastructure will link more than 100 major metropolitan cities throughout the US, and will be using Nortel’s Integrated Network Management system to manage the fiber optic equipment.
