GTE HAS CABLE FACILITY WITHDRAWN IN CERRITOS

By CBR Staff Writer

GTE Corp reports sorrowfully that the Federal Communication Commission has rescinded its authority to operate a cable television facility in Cerritos, California where it has been trying out interactive services to lukewarm response critics say the services on offer were not very jolly: GTE has filed a petition with the US Court of Appeals in San Francisco, challenging the action; it has been testing advanced video services in Cerritos under Commission operating authority with a five-year waiver granted in June 1989, but the Feds rescinded the authority and waiver because it found an unnecessary affiliation between GTE and the local cable television company, as a result of a construction deal.
