The E-Star consortium, bidding for the licence to operate Germany’s second private mobile phone network is optimistic it can win, said Terry Parker of US consortium member GTE Corp. E-Star on Friday files the second part of its bid for the new E-1 network, aimed at mass market mobile users.E-Star faces competition from a consortium led by VEBA AG unit PreussenElektra and another being prepared by McCaw Cellular Communications Inc. The E-1 licence is likely to be awarded at the end of 1992.Bayerische Motoren Werke AG last month merged its efforts for the E-1 licence with rival Man AG, and leads the E-Star consortium, which also includes US West Inc, Cie de Suez SA as well as other German firms.
