GTE Corp has got a little forrader in its massive shake-up of its $12,000m-a-year local telephone operations in 33 US states: it has now chosen the regional headquarters of the four supergroups to be created out of the existing seven, and will have a North Area run from Westfield, Indiana; a South Area run from Tampa, Florida; a West Area based in Thousand Oaks, California; and a Southwest Area with a split site headquarters in Irving and San Angelo, Texas – but it still doesn’t know where headquarters for the whole group will be, nor how many of the 82,000 jobs in the business will be in jeopardy.
