Rockstar Games has announced it will gift $500,000 of virtual money to every player of GTA Online after it promised to do so in October.

The online version of the car-jacking game was free to use for Grand Theft Auto 5 users. To thank players for making GTA 5 the most financially successful game of all time, Rockstar is rewarding players when an online update of the game is issued at the end of this week (November 8).

Two payments of $250,000 will be made into players’ accounts when they download the update: one when the download is complete and the second a few days later.

But, unsurprisingly, there is a catch. The free money package will only be provided to veterans who played GTA Online during its debut month.

In the time when the ambitious online version of GTA was launched, the game experienced several server breakdowns and data loss problems. The issues were met with thousands of complaints as players lost characters and virtual money. The problems occurred due to the unforeseen millions if players hitting Rockstar’s online infrastructure simultaneously.

The update hopes to fix some of these glitches and will offer a new range of content to maintain interest. The free ‘Beach Bum’ downloadable content pack adds new beach-themed vehicles and clothes as well as extra races and jobs called Gang Attack, Survival and Last Team Standing.

A content creator mode is also due in the upgrade, which will allow users to create their own customized races and death matches. The best will be featured on the Rockstar website.
