It begins to look as if the doom-mongers were right and AT&T Corp has screwed up NCR Corp, now inelegantly renamed AT&T Global Information Solutions. Losses at the Daytoner rose to $189m in the second quarter from $143m in the first quarter, and the company made a $14m profit in 1994’s second quarter. We’re disappointed with results in our computer business, but our people in Global Information Solutions are working hard to turn things around, said AT&T chairman Robert Allen. Sales at the firm rose 7% to $2,040m, adjusted for the sale of the microelectronics business. Computer product revenues rose 3%. Total turnover rose 7% to $19,500m, fuelled by growth in long distance and wireless services revenue, equipment sales and financial services. Telephone service rose 6.2% to $11,760m, including McCaw wireless revenues, up 30% to $724m.
