Tandy Corp’s Fremont, California-based GRiD Systems Corp has expanded its portable computer line with the GRiD 1750 20MHz 80386SX-based notebook computer, and the GRiDCase 1550cd, a 20MHz 80386SX-based computer claimed to be the first CD-ROM laptop: the GRiD 1750 combines a 60Mb hard disk, communications capabilities via an optional send-and-receive data-facsimile modem and up to 5Mb RAM in a 6 lbs 12 oz package at $6,950; the 1550cd has integrated CD-ROM drive with SCSI interface, for 635Mb of read-only store – 17 lbs in weight, it supports an optional gas plasma display and has 2Mb to 8Mb, internal 1.44Mb floppy, 60Mb hard drive and VGA liquid crystal display at $3,800.
