Grid Systems Corp, Fremont, California has duly added 80C286 and 80386 models to its lap-top line. The 12 lbs battery-powered GridCase 1500s come with 3270, VGA and Grid-Link local network support. A new 9 lbs GridLite Plus is claimed to be the lightest 10Mb hard disk lap-top on the market. Standard features on the 1500 AT-alike machines include 10 supertwist backlit LCD screen, 1Mb system RAM expandable to 8Mb, two 1.4Mb, 3.5 internal floppies and up to 512Kb of user-installable ROM packs. Options in-clude 640 by 200 or 640 by 400 bit-mapped gas plasma displays, 10 or 20Mb internal hard disks, 80287 and internal modem. The 1520 uses a 10MHz 80286 and is $3,495, out now, the 1530 with 12.5MHz 80386, $4,695 in January. The new GRiDLite Plus laptop includes 128Kb 8MHz 80C86, 640 by 200 supertwist backlit LCD, 1.4MB internal floppy, and 1Mb of ROM with eight ROM slots at $1,950, now. Options include internal 10Mb disk, 640Kb RAM, modem and 80C87. A Grid Application Toolbox will be available in December. Grid also introduced three portable external storage drives – 3.5 1.4Mb and 5.25 360Kb floppy drives and 40Mb external streaming tape system.
