As from Friday 27 July 2001 S2 – SMG Television’s digital channel will rebrand as ITV2.
This will have minimal effect on programme scheduling. Viewers in Scotland will still receive the broad range of programmes provided by SMG Television through its franchises Scottish and Grampian TV. In addition they will be able to receive the new subscription channel ITV Sport (available from 11 August).
Donald Emslie Chief Executive of SMG Television said:
SMG Television has been in discussion with Carlton and Granada over the rebranding of Ondigital as ITV digital and the introduction of new services like ITV Sport. I am pleased to announce that agreement has now been reached, to the benefit of viewers, SMG Television and ITV alike.
As part of the deal, viewers in Scotland will now be able to receive ITV2 and will have access to the new subscription channel ITV Sport.
This is great news for all concerned.
