The SMT Group SA, France’s second largest computer manufacturer, which has yet to make its mark in the UK market, has added three new models to its Goupil Golf range of desk top computers. The new machines are a high-end Golf 386 SX, and two entry-level workstations, the Golf XT and Golf 286. The company has also enhanced its G50 80386-based tower configuration. It can now be fitted with a 512Kb disk cache that uses a 68000 controller from Motorola, giving an average access time of 1.8mS. The 386 SX has 16MHz Intel 80386SX CPU, optional 80387 co-processor, 1Mb to 4Mb expansion modules, and 20Mb, 40Mb, or 100Mb hard disks. The XT uses a 10MHz 8086 processor with an optional 8087 co-processor, 3.5 1.44Mb floppies, 20Mb hard disk and two expansion slots. The 286 workstation, with 12.5MHz 80286 processor, and optional 80287, comes with single 3.5 floppy and two expansion slots. All three have VGA monitors and are available now in the UK, at between UKP2,000 and UKP4,000.
