GOSSIP THAT CONTROL DATA WILL SELL COMPUTER SIDE TO UNISYS WON’T GO AWAY

By CBR Staff Writer

Speculation that Control Data Corp will sell its computer systems and services division to Unisys Corp persists (CI No 1,093), and one Wall Street insider is quoted by Dow Jones Professional Investor Report as saying that the deal is done and they’re negotiating price. The Minneapolis Star Tribune newspaper quotes an unnamed Control Data executive as saying: When the bottom line is in trouble, a company does what it has to do. And it would seem like they have to do this deal. The Cyber mainframe computer business and the workstations are thought to be worth something over $500m.
