Google’s Android Wear watches revealed at Google I/O

LG G Moto, Moto 360 and Samsung Gear Live ready to go.

By Ben Sullivan

Google finally unveiled its new Android Wear-powered samrtwatches at the Google I/O developers’ conference last night in San Francisco.

The LG G Watch and the Samsung Gear Live are now both available to pre-order on Google Play, with the Motorola 360 coming ‘later this summer’.

The LG G Watch will cost £145 with the Samsung Gear Live setting you back £118.

They will ship on July 7, and require an Android phone running Android 4.3 or above to be compatible.

Google emphasized the need to check notifications at a glance, and the watches will show notifications like messages or alerts from the users’ smartphones.

Both the LG G Watch and the Samsung Gear Live have rectangular displays, but the forthcoming Motorola Moto 360 has a circular, more traditional watch face.

Google Now will be integrated into the watches, Google’s highly predictive and contextual search and notification function will shows users cards relevant to their needs and interests, such as navigation and nearby attractions.

The full Android Wear SDK (Software developing kit) is available to developers so more apps will be available to users on the watches’ release.

The watches are voice activated, and users will also be able to control music for their smartphones from the watches.

Google beat Apple to the punch with the release of their Android Wear smartwatches. Apple has yet to announce the release date of its highly anticipated iWatch.
