Google has started to offer people access to its new Voice service, the unified voice calls and messaging system that stems from a service that used to be known as Grand Central.
The system is being mooted as way of routing all calls through a single number and “makes voicemail as easy as email.”
It is possible to block or screen calls, send, receive and store SMS messages, make calls over IP and receive voicemails via email or SMS a function that uses on line transcription features to convert voice into text.
Voice will also allow conference calling, will provide online call records and allows a call to be switched from one phone to another during a conversation. A Google Voice inbox can be accessed from a mobile phone.
The company has said it is in the process of sending out invitations to people wanting to test the system.
