Google updates Maps with multi-destination feature

Updated mapping feature is currently offered in the US

By CBR Staff Writer

Google has revamped its Maps app with multi-destination support, as well as two new tools that assist in managing flight and hotel reservations..

The new directions for multiple destinations feature would allow map users to choose a best route on a map as well as add multiple spots in and around the place of visit.

Google Maps product manager Florian Goerisch said that once users selects a starting point, they have to click ‘+’ and add stops to their route by typing in the search box or clicking on the map.

"When you’re exploring a new city, find the best way to museums, historic squares, and other attractions by dragging and dropping your destinations in the order that works for you," Goerisch said.

"And if you’re curious before you go, the Views carousel, located in the bottom right corner, is a great way to preview Street View, PhotoTours, and other imagery.

For registered users, Google is offering a Google Now style digital assistant feature, which enables users see their flight, hotel and restaurant reservations soon after they open the related map.

"Having all your stuff in one place makes it easier to manage your appointment details and plan your commute," Goerisch said.

"Then, when you’re ready to go, you can quickly access your recent search history on the Google Maps app for your iPhone or Android device and hit the road.

The new feature is currently available only in the US.
