Google sites tops US search share in May 2011: comScore

Americans conducted 19.3 billion total core searches in May 2011

Google Sites led the US explicit core search market in May with 65.5% market share, followed by Yahoo Sites with 15.9% and Microsoft Sites with 14.1%, according to a report from research firm comScore.

The report said Americans conducted 19.3 billion total core searches in May 2011, with Google sites accounting for 12.2 billion searches, up 5%.

Yahoo Sites registered 2.7 billion searches (up 5%), Microsoft Sites with 2.4 billion (up 4%), Ask Network with 502 million (up 2%) and AOL with 254 million (up 2%).

Google Sites accounted for 63.3% of total core search queries conducted, followed by Yahoo! Sites with 19.6% (up 1.7 percentage points) and Microsoft Sites with 13.1%, revealed the report.

The report also found Ask Network comprised 2.6% of total search queries, followed by AOL with 1.3%.
