After drones, self-driving cars, robots and balloons offering internet access, Google has now added the ‘smart’ spoon to its hi-tech product portfolio.
Aimed at helping those suffering from vital tremors and Parkinson’s disease, the new Liftware device is claimed to prevent shaking of the spoon by 76%.
The Guardian reported that the new utensil makes use of hundreds of algorithms to help sense the pattern of hand shaking, creating an instant alteration to maintain balance.
Google noted that about 10 million people across the word are hit with tremors and Parkinson’s disease.
The latest device follows Google’s earlier acquisition of spoon maker Lift Lab, with its founder Anupam Pathak working for Google X’s life sciences unit.
The unit also owns a stake in DNAnexus, which studies genome sequencing to better understand the genetic factors leading to heart disease and ageing.
