Google has released the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich code as part of the Android Open Source Project.
This is supposed to be the first version of Android designed to run on both smartphones and tablets.
Urging users to show some patience, Jean-Baptiste M. "JBQ" Queru, a software engineer in the Android project, said, "If you sync before it’s done, you’ll get an incomplete copy that you won’t be able to use, so please wait for us to give the all-clear before you sync."
Queru added that the code is actually for Android 4.0.1, the version of the mobile OS that will ship with Samsung’s Galaxy Nexus.
The latest code push reportedly includes all previous versions of Android, including Android 3.0 Honeycomb.
Google has begun uploading the source to the Android Open Source Project servers, from where it is available for download.
